Octopus
The Octopus is a sea animal witheight
powerful feet which it uses ashands. These are called tentacles. Theword “Octopus”
comes from two greetwords that mean “eight feet”.The octopus, the squid and thecuttle sh belong to the same family thathas no outside shells. Their
bodies arecovered entirely with skin. Therefore thebody of an octopus is soft.
It looks likea big balloon. A fully-grown octopus canbe as large as 8,5 metres
from the tip of
one tentacles to the tip of another. It canweigh
as much as 45 kilograms.Besides using its tentacles to catchsmall sh, sea plants, crab and lobsters,the octopus also uses them
against itsenemies. The octopus wraps its tentaclesaround the victim and squeezes
it beforeeating it.The octopus escapes from its enemiesby giving out a thick
dark uid to darkenthe water. It can also change the colourof its body
to match its surroundings. Ithides from its enemies by doing this.
